18 May 2015

More and more Kiwis are connecting to the Government’s Ultra-Fast Broadband network and Rural Broadband Imitative – and the local numbers are on the up. The quarterly results for Hawke’s Bay and Gisborne show a 35 per cent increase in connections to the network.

“The good news is we’re well ahead of schedule on getting the job done,” Craig Foss said. “Before National was re-elected, we said we were going to commit to building a world-class broadband network for New Zealand, and that’s happening right now.”

“We’re already getting the benefit of this build. We have thousands of households in the area connected up,” Craig Foss said. “Over 20,000 end users can now connect; this includes Hastings, Napier, and Gisborne.”

The target is 64,500 end users being able to connect by December 2019.

“This fast, reliable internet connection makes life a lot easier for businesses, connecting easier and more enjoyable for households, and it makes learning at school a far more enjoyable and productive experience too.

“It’s good for us, and it’s good for all of New Zealand. I’m sure the people here in the Bay are also looking forward to more of the network coming to town,” Craig Foss said.
